Food for health

'Food for Health' is a project delivered by Keighley & District Volunteer Centre. Funded by the Santander Foundation, we are able to offer a FREE 12 week healthy cooking course for adults with learning disabilities.

- Are you aged 18 or over?
- Would you like to support adults with learning disabilities to develop their skills?
- Are you able to commit to a minimum of 12 weeks volunteering?

This is an extremely rewarding role in which you will gain experience of supporting people to develop their independence.

Starts January 2018!

Who is it for?

Adults (18+) with a learning disability who would like to develop their skills in a catering environment.

The programme includes some theory but most units are practical sessions within a working cafe environment.

  • Principles of Healthy Eating
  • Basic Food Hygiene
  • Health & Safety in the Kitchen
  • Food Preparation & Cooking
  • Customer Service Skills

The course is a great way to develop skills for independent living or for progression into learning & employment opportunities.

When is it happening?

We will be delivering a rolling programme of four 12 week courses throughout 2018.

January - March

What's next?

If you enjoy our 12 week course and want to keep on learning, or if you feel you would benefit from a long term training opportunity our ‘Skills for Life’ project may be for you.

Additional units will be covered, with participants learning at their own pace and developing a wider range of knowledge and skills.
